COURSE SUMMARY:
For centuries, metals have been used in the
fabrication of direct and indirect restorations and
prosthetics in dentistry. However, with the advent of
cosmetic dentistry, patient preferences and innovative laboratory
processing; a shift towards ceramic restorations including tooth
"bling" are common options for patients.. Have gold restorations
become yesteryear's dentistry or are they now being reinvented as a
fashion statement in pop culture?
This continuing education webinar will assess the
history of metallurgy in dentistry, evidence based studies, and the
ways dentistry has aligned with growing trends in the area of
ceramics, dental "enhancements" such as "bling", patient
preferences and indications.

ABOUT THE
SPEAKER: Dr. Kirsten Roling, DDS is the Chief
Education Officer for Dental CE Academy administered by Virtual
Dontics®. She completed dental school training at the University of
California, San Francisco; during the height of the HIV/AIDS
Pandemic. Dr. Roling is credited as an early pioneer of
Teledentistry. Her clinical practice spans pediatrics to
geriatrics. Previously an Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF; and
Public Health Preceptor, Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral
Health, Dr. Roling also held the position as Chief for the Office
of Oral Health, Maricopa County, Department of Public Health where
she administed the nation's largest pediatric oral health
prevention programs for the third largest U.S. public health
department. As a mobile dental provider, she commanded a large
teledentistry practice to treat homebound geriatric patients. She
is a recipient of the Pediatric Oral Health Access Program (POHAP)
scholarship and provided dental services pro bono to at risk
infants and foster children. She has completed certification
through the American Dental Education Association in conjunction
with the Academy of Academy Leadership and Institute for Allied
Health Educators "Advances in Educational Methodology." In 2017 she
was published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry, and in
2018 interviewed on National Public Radio.
