Agenda

  1. BENEFITS OF USING DENTAL LASERS TO SAFELY TREAT THE MEDICALLY COMPROMISED PATIENT
  2. 1 CEU: Recorded webinar
  3. COST: Free
  4. SPEAKER: Dr. Mel Burchman, DDS, MALD: President of the Academy of Laser Dentistry
  5. SPONSOR: Academy of Laser Dentistry
  6. DESCRIPTION:  Treating the medically compromised patient is my passion and my love. It is the best thing I have done in 44 years of practice. My hope is that many MEDICAL/DENTAL professionals will watch this presentation and will become stimulated to join with many laser practitioners to the benefit of our mutual patients.
  7. We are finally becoming more educated and aware of the link between the oral and systemic health of our patients. In today's modern dental practice we come into contact with patients that have very complex and compromised medical histories. Lasers have allowed me to treat many of these patients in my office while keeping these patients on all their daily medications and eliminating the need for additional hospitalizations. All of these cases have been in conjunction with the patient's medical doctors.
  8. My cases will demonstrate laser techniques that you will be able to incorporate into your practice. You will learn my technique for preventing and decreasing the symptoms of Oral Mucositis. How to use lasers to treat emergency patients that are currently undergoing chemo/radiation therapy. You will learn my pre and post-op regime for extractions and root canals. I will show you how to treat patients with many varied medical conditions. Some of the conditions these patients had are: Cancer, Secondary Myleodplastic Anemia and other Blood Disorders, Pulmonary Embolisms, Heart Surgery, Severe Lymphedema, Cicatricial Pemphigoid, Parkinson's Disease, Stroke, and Neuro-disorders.
  9. Unfortunately, many of these patients had multiple diseases and conditions. These techniques decrease patient post-op pain and allow for better and faster healing with far less post-op complications. Please watch this presentation to make our lives and our patient's lives better!!
  10. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Discover the benefits of Acupuncture by Photobiomodulation.
  • Become proficient in proactively treating cancer patients to prevent Oral Mucositis, and to decrease the severity of patients already suffering.
  • Demonstrate the proper technique for Laser Hemostasis with Diode and Nd: YAG lasers.
  • Demonstrate pre and post operative extraction and root canal Photobiomodulation techniques with Low Level Laser.
  • Demonstrate how to control severe tremors in patients with Parkinson's Disease and Motor Disorders using Photobiomodulation techniques.
