Antibiotics in Dentistry: Prophylaxis, Stewardship & Appropriate Clinical Use

COURSE SUMMARY:

Antibiotics have revolutionized healthcare, transforming once-deadly infections into treatable conditions. Yet, their overuse and misuse have led to alarming consequences, including antibiotic resistance, untreatable superbug infections, and a rise in antibiotic-associated Clostridium difficile infections. This live continuing education webinar is your opportunity to stay at the forefront of evidence-based care and antibiotic stewardship in dentistry.

Join us to explore the latest ADA Clinical Practice Guidelines on antibiotic use for odontogenic infections and gain clarity on when antibiotics are appropriate and when they’re not. Learn how to confidently manage complex scenarios such as antibiotic prophylaxis for patients with prosthetic joints, cardiac conditions, bone marrow transplants, and other medical concerns. This course will provide you with practical insights, including prescribing recommendations, sample prescriptions, and best practices for antibiotic use in procedures such as extractions, minor oral surgery, implant placement, and periodontal therapy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Master Clinical Guidelines: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the current Clinical Practice Guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis and their application to odontogenic infections.

  • Prosthetic Joint & Endocarditis Knowledge: Delve into the biology and physiology of prosthetic joint infections and infective endocarditis to make informed decisions for your patients.

  • Best Practices for Procedures: Review the best practices for antibiotic use in dental extractions, implant placement, periodontal root planing, and other procedures to ensure optimal care.

By participating in this course, you’ll be empowered to provide safe, effective, and evidence-based care while minimizing the risks associated with antibiotic misuse.
