​COURSE SUMMARY:  Dr. Grace Sun is considered an expert in many areas of dentistry, including the application of acupuncture with Photobiomodulation Therapy (also known as low level laser)  as an effective, non-opioid pain management strategy when treating patients with orofacial pain. During this course, Dr. Sun will demonstrate how to treat orofacial pain using Photobiomodulation Therapy a painless no-needle alternative to acupuncture using Red and IR light by activating chi vessels via meridian points on orofacial muscular and jaw systems. Red and IR light can activate chi vessels via meridian points. The three wavelengths discussed will be 660nm 850nm and 940nm, penetrating deep into the tissue, the muscle, the nerves and bone to stimulate mitochondria within each cell, increasing ATP production, resulting in more efficient and pain relieving cellular function. In addition, guest speaker, Dr. Chianni Lin, an oriental medicine doctor and acupuncture specialist, will explain the history and background of acupuncture as Traditional Chinese medicine, and acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body.

In our effort to help relieve orofacial pain in our patients while also helping to stem the opioid epidemic, health care providers need to explore complimentary treatment modalities. Not only does acupuncture have a 2,000+ year history of pain management and wellness improvement, but it can also be integrated with existing treatment modalities for pain relief. This presentation will explore basic meridian point theory and techniques using PhotoBioModulation (PBM) light therapy, a safe and painless avenue for effective healing and pain relief.

About the Speakers:

Dr. Grace Sun, DDS; FAACD, MALD, MAGD, MICOI

​Dr. Grace Sun graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1981 and has maintained a full-time comprehensive cosmetic practice and dental laboratory in the Beverly Hills, California area since 1983. Dr. Sun utilizes multiple wavelengths of dental lasers in various treatment procedures. A renowned educational advocate, Dr. Sun holds several prestigious statuses including Master of the Academy of General Dentistry as well as Master and Educator of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD). As of April 2021 Dr. Sun concluded a seven year tenure on ALD’s Board of Directors. Dr. Sun is an Accredited Fellow with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the first female Accredited Fellow in AACD history, where she served 7 years with AACD’s Professional Education Committee. A published author and recipient of the prestigious Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence in Laser Dentistry, Dr. Sun lectures internationally for laser education, holding Mastership status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and is a senior instructor for the International Association for Orthodontics (IAO).
