COURSE SUMMARY: A webinar developed to assist dental clinicians recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Discuss the history and background of child abuse and neglect.

  • Report the incidence of child abuse and neglect.

  • Identify the problem from a dental provider perspective.

  • Recognize behavioral health issues and effects.

  • Describe the clinician's role in recognizing, reporting, and referring victims.

  • Cite clinical and intra-oral pathology of physical and sexual abuse.

  • Know when, how, where to report suspected abuse.

  • Understand legal responsibilities of mandated reporters.

Dr. Kirsten Rolling

Dr. Rolling is the Chief Education Officer, Dental CE Academy. With a 40 year history in the dental industry, beginning as a registered dental assistant followed by a 30 year career as a clinical dentist, she now devotes full time to the education of dental clinicians. She is a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco; School of Dentisty; a former assistant clinical professor, UCSF; Preceptor, Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (A.T.Still University). With a career in both private practice and public health; she is the former Chief for the Office of Oral Health, Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ), and administered 3 of the nation's largest oral health prevention programs. Dr. Rolling is published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry; and was interviewed by National Public Radio.
