COURSE SUMMARY:  This is afree dental continuing education course hosted by Dental CE Academy. Oral Health is important across all lifespans and particularly during pregnancy. Treatment involves "two patients" and all considered treatment must provide a benefit to the mother while minimizing risk to the fetus. Oral disease is implicated in adverse pregnancy outcomes. Oral disease in the mother can lead to Early Childhood Caries (ECC) in her child. Managing oral health during pregnancy is vital to both mother and child. Optimal oral health and dental treatment protects and promotes the woman's health and quality of life before, during, and after pregnancy.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Appreciate the significance of oral health anerd healthy pregnancies.

  • Recognize physiologic changes in pregnancy and considerations in dental treatment.

  • Understand medication safety and risks in pregnant and lactating women.

  • Know common oral health conditions during pregnancy.

  • Analyze safety and indications for anesthesia and radiographs during pregnancy.

Dr. Kirsten Roling, DDS

Dr. Roling, DDS is the Chief Education Officer for Dental CE Academy administered by Virtual Dontics® Education LLC.  She completed dental school training at the University of California, San Francisco; during the height of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic.
Dr. Roling is a public health dentist, credited as an early pioneer of Teledentistry. Her clinical practice spans pediatrics to geriatrics. Previously an Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF; and Public Health Preceptor, Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, Dr. Roling also held the position as Chief for the Office of Oral Health, Maricopa County, Department of Public Health where she administered the nation's largest pediatric oral health prevention programs for the third largest U.S. public health department. As a mobile dental provider, she commanded a large teledentistry practice to treat homebound geriatric patients. She is a recipient of the Pediatric Oral Health Access Program (POHAP) scholarship and provided dental services pro bono to at risk infants and foster children. She has completed certification through the American Dental Education Association in conjunction with the Academy of Academy Leadership and Institute.
