COURSE SUMMARY: There are
over 18 million cancer survivors in the United States, and 32
million survivors globally. Cancer treatments (chemotherapy and
radiation) can lead to significant oral side effects, including
mucositis, dry mouth, infections, swallowing difficulties, and
taste disturbances, collectively known as 'Chemo Mouth.' In this
course, you will learn about the mechanisms behind these side
effects and explore practical strategies for managing them.
Attendees will also discover the benefits of natural products, like
sea salt-based rinses, to promote healing and symptom relief,
enhancing patient outcomes during and after cancer treatment. Join
an engaging and informative course tailored to meet the high demand
for dental professionals’ expertise in managing oral care for
cancer survivors, specifically addressing chemo mouth issues. Gain
fundamental knowledge and expertise in providing optimal dental
hygiene to enhance the quality of life for these patients.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
-
Identify the common oral side effects
associated with cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and
radiation, including their underlying mechanisms.
-
Develop patient care plans that include
evidence-based strategies for managing 'Chemo Mouth' symptoms, such
as dry mouth, mucositis, and taste alterations.
-
Evaluate the role of natural oral care solutions,
such as sea salt-based rinses, in promoting healing and reducing
the severity of oral complications during cancer therapy.
-
Implement preventive measures in the dental
setting to enhance oral health and improve the quality of life for
cancer patients both during and after treatment.
